The Brazilian Center for Geometry ushers in a new era for mathematical research in Brazil, establishing itself as an international hub of excellence in science, education, and innovation.
CBG is the first center specialized in geometry in Latin America and the Global South. Inspired by institutions such as the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics (USA) and the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (Italy), it sets a new standard of excellence, expanding the scientific participation of regions historically underrepresented in the global landscape.
With 12 Principal Investigators and 35 Associate Researchers across 11 national institutions, CBG conducts world-class research within its four thematic areas. The Center fosters an interdisciplinary research ecosystem capable of addressing fundamental problems and developing innovative theories that connect pure mathematics, physics, statistics, and contemporary applications of geometry.
CBG invests in the development of tools and methodologies with direct societal impact, including knowledge transfer to public and private sectors, technological development, and support for the creation of startups. Geometry is understood here as a catalyst for critical thinking, creativity, and innovative problem-solving — essential elements for scientific and technological advancement.
Through nine Knowledge Dissemination Hubs, teacher training initiatives, and inclusive programs such as Libras+Mathematics, CBG works to strengthen mathematics education, broaden access to scientific knowledge, and inspire new generations of students and researchers.
